The newly constructed HTW Dresden building offers optimal conditions for applied teaching and research. On a total area of over 8,000 square metres, a construction materials technology centre with state-of-the-art laboratories for concrete technology, geotechnics, traffic and hydraulic engineering as well as teaching cabinets and PC pools for computer science and mathematics were created. The building also includes office, teaching and workshop areas for the Faculty of Design and a creative centre, thus creating a unique synergy between different disciplines.
The establishment of modern and spacious laboratories not only allows for an improvement in teaching, learning and working conditions, but also promotes interdisciplinary work by spatially combining practice-oriented teaching and applied research at a central location. The modern laboratories enable internships to be made more comprehensive and more vivid. An outstanding example of this is the well in the hydraulic engineering laboratory, which enables students to practically try out the installation of an underwater motor pump using a crane, and the inspection of the well by means of a well camera.
