The 32 research groups with around 400 scientists from over 45 different countries were able to move into their new, 73-meter high, modern building at the Biozentrum in Basel last year, in order to continue their cutting-edge research there at the highest level. Lecture hall capacity for 900 students was also created for the university.
In Basel, a total of 10 floors, as well as the scientific facilities in the basement, are available for research and are symbolically connected to each other, because innovative ideas, especially in the context of interdisciplinary research, can only arise through exchange. With the same purpose in mind, the shared technology platforms were distributed across the floors.
This laboratory facility, which houses extremely sensitive scientific equipment such as the nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, is highly complex. There are also special laboratories for different hazard levels – as molecular biological research places the highest demands on energy, cooling, stable temperatures, freedom from vibration, pressure conditions, biosafety, and much more.
- Start of construction: 2019
- Completion: 2021
- 10 floors of laboratories and offices as well as conference rooms and lecture halls, in total 23,400 square meters
