Max Planck Institute of chemical Ecology, Jena

Founded in September 1996, the Max-Planck-Institute of Chemical Ecology investigates the role of chemical signals that mediate the interactions between plants, animals and their environment.

At the moment a total of 128 institute members work at the MPI, among which are four directors, 45 scientists and postdoctoral fellows, and 17 Ph.D. students.

The new building consists of five single units that group around an entrance hall. Each unit will have three floors that will house research laboratories (all equipped with the Wesemann DELTA 30 laboratory furnishing system) and offices. The longitudinal unit will contain common facilities such as the library, seminar rooms and a cafeteria. The total floor area will be ca. 7.500 m2. In addition, a research greenhouse with eight cabins and a total area of ca. 1.100 m2 will provide space for plant breeding and experimental work. The construction work started in June 1999 and has been finished in the autumn of 2001.
